BRONCOS TRADE RICKY WILLIAMS TO GIANTS Denver, August 20th, 2010: In a long-rumored trade, the Broncos finally found a suitable suitor for Ricky Williams talents in the Giants, sending Williams to New York for running back Chris Brown, and two draft picks. The trade fell into place just before the start of the ISFL 2010 season. Broncos general manager Hank Sienzant announced the deal today and said, "Ricky has contributed to our team for two years now, and we hated to let him go, as I know he'll be a solid contributor as much there as he was here. But ultimately, we are a rebuilding team and we felt Ricky's value, at 32 years of age, would not get any higher than it is today. And the draft picks we acquire, in addition to getting younger at running back with the addition of Chris Brown, will help us to fulfill our goal of turning this team into a winner in the near future." The Broncos had earlier rejected offers of a second round pick from an unnamed team during the ISFL draft, claiming they wanted at least a first-round pick for Williams, who the Broncos perceive as still having the potential to rush for a thousand yards in a season, although it's been six years (ISFL 2004) since Williams has done that, as he gained 1339 yards on 416 carries (3.2 per carry) for New England that year. Ultimately, the Broncos didn't get a first round pick, but they perhaps did better than that. The Broncos negotiated with the Giants most of today, until the teams reached an agreement with the addition of the Giants fourth and Giants running back Chris Brown to the package. While Chris Brown is four years younger than Williams, his best year was nearly as long ago. In 2005, he rushed for 902 yards on 187 carries, a 4.8 yard average, and nine touchdowns. He did not play a down last year as he was rehabbing a severe knee injury. However, he is healthy now and the Broncos believe he has several good years left.
